Maybe / it depends on /which part of Japan /you are from/, but /at my house,/ we always make /and eat / 七草粥 “Nanakusa Gayu”,/rice porridge with seven kinds of Spring herbs （発音は「ハーブス」または「アーブス」）/ on the 7th of January.
It is believed / that if you eat this special dish, / you will be able to have / a healthy and happy year(^-^)！
It is also said / that another aspect （側面）of it / is to give your stomach / a rest （胃に休息を与える）, / after the too much drinking and eating /of the Winter holidays (￣□￣;)!!
At my house, / we always put the left- over（残り物の）Mochi rice cakes（お餅）in the porridge, / but / each family / seems to have / its own recipe！
